Tamarind Date Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

  • ½ cup chopped pitted Medjool dates (about 5 dates)

  • 1 tablespoon tamarind concentrate

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • Pinch to ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

  • ⅔ cup warm water, more if needed to reach desired consistency

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine dates, tamarind concentrate, honey, cayenne (if using), and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.

  2. Transfer mixture to blender and blend until smooth.

  3. Use immediately, or transfer to a jar and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Chef's Tips

Tamarind concentrate can be found in Indian and specialty food stores. It’s inexpensive and keeps for months.
